 The Lord's Prayer, Part 9 Yours Is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory We are currently praying through the Lord ’s Prayer on behalf of Oman, based on this guide. ‘Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever' Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head above all. (1 Chronicles 29:11) The Lord’s Prayer, as we commonly recite it, concludes with a trumpet blast of praise. These words may not have appeared in the prayer as Jesus originally taught it, and it is not found in certain NT manuscripts, though such doxologies appear in other biblical texts. Nevertheless, it is a powerful conclusion of powerful truth! Lord Jesus, thank You that Yours Kingdom, Your power and Your glory are found in obedience, forgiveness, humility, grace, justice, and love, as shown in how You taught us to pray. In proclaiming these words today, we declare and pledge our allegiance to the Kingdom of God and dedicate our lives to making it a reality here on earth.  September Focus: Ash-Sharqiyah North Region A Hidden Gem Ash-Sharqiyah North is in the northeast corner of the country, and is the gateway between the rugged interior and the eastern coastal plains. There are many ancient ruins in the area that tell of its historical significance, such as the remains of a copper mine dating to 3200 BC, evidence of past wealth in the mud-brick village of Al Munisifeh, and the "Qiblatain" mosque dating from the time of Mohammed with two qiblas (prayer directions), one pointing towards Jerusalem and the other added later, pointing towards Mecca. The regional capital, Ibra was once a prosperous trading post, and still boasts a vibrant suuq, with a women's market on Wednesdays. The city is also known for its equestrian skills and shows. The Arabic root of Ibra can be translated "remission of debt;” may this city and region come to know the true canceling of their spiritual debt in Christ Jesus! “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

 Ibra Souqs, Shows, and Sheikhs Ibra (Arabic: إبراء, pop. 29,599) is the capital and largest city of Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate, and seat of the Ibra district (pop. 50,189). Ibra is one of the oldest cities in Oman and was once a center of trade, religion, education, and art. Old ruins tell of its historical importance and wealth. The city is famous for its traditional market (souq), which on Wednesdays is a ‘women’s souq’ with women vendors and shoppers. Ibra is also known for its horse shows, displaying impressive feats by the handsome Arabian horses. Ibra is home of the Al Harthy, Al Maskari, Al Mughairi and Al Riyami tribes, some of the biggest tribes in Oman. Sheikh Saif bin Hashil Al-Maskari is one of the most prominent Sheikhs of Ibra, and one of the biggest businessmen in Oman. He has invested heavily in improving Ibra and its infrastructure, and was also a former GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs. The name ‘Ibra’ is thought to be related to the Arabic verb ibra’ al-danab (ابراء للذنب) which means ‘a purification of guilt.’ We bless the people of Ibra to be cleansed and purified by the blood of the Lamb! “Jesus did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.  National Anthem, Part 1 An Ode and An Oath O Almighty, save his Majesty the Sultan and his people in their homelands with pride and peace May he live long and triumphant, a glorified leader for whom we shall lay down our lives O Oman, we have been from the time of the Prophet of the most loyal and noble Arabs So ascend to the apex of the heavens, illuminate the cosmos, rejoice, and relish in prosperity Oman's national anthem is titled "As-Salâm As-Solṭâni" (السلام السلطاني), meaning 'Salute to The Sultan'. The music for the anthem was composed in 1932 by James Frederick Mills and performed by a British band aboard the HMS Hawkins docking in Muscat, as a tribute to then-Sultan Said bin Tamur. When Qaboos succeeded his father Said as Sultan in 1970, he adopted lyrics to the band music, including a verse referring to himself by name, and thus was perpetually lauded throughout his 50-year reign. When Haitham succeeded Qaboos, his first act as Sultan (after the 40-day mourning period) was to change the anthem lyrics, removing the reference to Qaboos and instead exalting the Omani people as a whole. Listen to the anthem here. The anthem is in essence a prayer, calling on God to protect and keep the Sultan. The singers bless the Sultan and give an oath: "For him we shall lay down our lives." And it is likewise a statement of Omani identity and patriotism: we are a noble and set-apart people, faithful to Islam, full of light, joy, and prosperity. God, we agree with what is true in this anthem. May You save the Sultan, and his people. May You give them peace and abundant, eternal life.  Al Munizifeh Ancient Ruins On the far side of Ibra lies Al Munizifeh village (Arabic: المنزفة), a community of mud-brick mansions once owned by prosperous merchants of the 19th century during the reign of Sultan Said the Great. Ibra lay at the crossroads of trade routes between the interior of the country and sea, and thus produced great wealth for many of its citizens. However, with the decline of Sultan Said's commercial empire in the mid- to late-1800s, these once stately mansions fell into ruin. Today they are fascinating to wander around and explore, seemingly frozen in time, reminding us of the area’s former greatness. “They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations.” (Isaiah 61:4) God, would You rebuild the ruins in the lives of the people of Ibra and Ash-Sharqiyah North region.  Al-Mudhaibi Bear Much Fruit Al-Mudhaibi (Arabic: المضيبي, pop. 15,430) is a town and seat of Al-Mudhaibi District (pop. 114, 806) in the Ash-Sharqiyah North Region. Recently archaeologists discovered a 5,000-year-old settlement in the nearby mountains, thought to be home to copper-mining people that traded with the Indus civilization. This area is also uniquely known for its grape cultivation and annual grape festival, a crop not commonly grown in Oman. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) We bless the people of Al-Mudhaibi to know the True Vine, and to remain in Him and bear much fruit!  The Bedouin, Part 1 Heart and Soul of Arab Oman The Bedouin (nomadic tribes following the grazing of their livestock) were the original inhabitants of the Arabian desert. They have eked out their survival for centuries in some of the harshest conditions on earth, and are known as fiercely independent, generous and hospitable, noble and brave. Their language, culture, arts, handicrafts, honor code, religion, and social structures have permeated the Arab world. Even as the majority are now "settled" or "sedentary", their influence is preserved and celebrated through heritage foundations and tourism. Camel-riders crossing the barren desert, coffee being served in a tent, or poetry sung over a campfire are quintessential Arab Bedouin images. In Oman, the Bedouin have traditionally lived in the interior deserts, while some have been mountain nomads. They would have periodic contact with towns for trade. Some Bedouin tribes prospered when oil was discovered on their land, others have been sustained by cultural tourism, while some remain in poverty. Today, the Bedouin lifestyle is under threat from various sources. Some are choosing to leave to find educational and economic opportunities in the cities. Some are forced to relocate to government housing because of highway construction or land development (oil and other natural resources). But like the saying goes, you can take the Bedouin out of the desert, but you can't take the desert out of the Bedouin. Their culture lives on in the heart and soul of Oman.  The Bedouin, Part 2 Embracing Freedom Today, the estimated number of Bedouin in Oman ranges from 30,000 to 150,000. Approximately 5% of Oman's citizens are considered nomadic/non-settled Bedouin. The main Bedouin groups in Oman are the Dura (in Al-Dhahirah region), the Harsusi (in Al-Wasta region), the Jebeli (in Dhofar region), the Shawawi (in Musandam region), and the Jenebah and Wahibah (in Sharqiyah regions). There are also Bedouin groups in the Batinah regions, but to a lesser extent. Under Sultan Qaboos in the 1970s, the Bedouin tribes were encouraged to settle and join the economic development sweeping the nation. Many tribes did settle, while others held out and still retain their traditional ways. Declare This: "Jesus said, "For if you embrace the truth, it will release true freedom into your lives.” Surprised by this, they said, “But we’re the descendants of Abraham and we’re already free. We’ve never been in bondage to anyone. How could you say that we will be released into more freedom?” “I speak eternal truth,” Jesus said. “When you sin you are not free. You’ve become a slave in bondage to your sin. And slaves have no permanent standing in a family, like a son does, for a son is a part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free from sin, then become a true son and be unquestionably free!"
