May prayer points
 Movements Rapid Multiplication of Disciples and Churches in Al-Batinah North We want to see the fullness of the Kingdom of God coming into every part of Al-Batinah North region, like yeast penetrating the entire batch of dough (Matt. 13:33). And the fastest way for this to happen is by rapidly reproducing disciples and groups (churches), who spread and multiply within and across their families, tribes, social networks, and societies. Acts 6:7 is our heart’s desire and fervent prayer: “God's word reigned supreme and kept spreading. The number of Jesus' followers in [Al-Batinah North] quickly grew and increased by the day.” Let’s pray for the church that will form in Al-Batinah North: · Pray that seekers/new disciples would form groups to pray and study the Word together, forming the church. (Hebrews 10:25) · Pray that these new groups/churches would mature and multiply, leading to movements of healthy, reproducing churches. (Acts 16:5) · Pray for the raising up and multiplication of Omani leadership in these groups and networks. (2 Tim. 2:2) · Pray for spiritual protection from the enemy, covering over new believers, new groups, and new leaders as they emerge (I Pet. 5:8) · Pray that these movements would overcome the things that hinder growth, like fear, pride, corruption, disunity, etc. (Ephesians 4:1-4, 20-23) · Pray that Christ alone would be the foundation of these groups and movements (I Cor. 3:11) · Pray for the fullness of the Kingdom of God to spread and penetrate into every aspect of society and culture, in Al-Batinah North as it is in heaven.  As-Suwaiq Great Defender As-Suwaiq (Arabic: السويق, pop. 60,868) is a coastal town and seat of Al-Suwaiq district (pop. 184,561) in the region of Al Bāţinah Noth. The name of the town refers in Arabic to "market"; it is named this because it is located in central Al Batinah and attracted not only the people who lived in the mountains but also people who lived by the region's coast to buy and sell goods. This area is known for growing bananas, mangos, citrus, and herbs. As-Suwaiq Castle was built in the 1700s, when this area had a busy port. The castle entrance faces the sea, with the unique architecture of 3 round towers and 1 square tower. Legend has it that in the early 1800s, the stronghold was once successfully defended from attack by the wife of the governor when her husband was away in Muscat on business. Pray for the Town and District of As-Suwaiq: · Glory of God. That God would be glorified and exalted and worshipped in As-Suwaiq. (Habakkuk 2:14, Psalm 138:4-5) · Expansion of the Kingdom. That many people in As-Suwaiq will come to know Jesus, and that communities of believers will be planted, that movements will be ignited. (Luke 1:32-33, 2 Cor 10:15-16) · Hearts and Minds. That spiritual blindness and bondages will be lifted from the minds of the people in As-Suwaiq, and that hearts will be stirred with hunger for Jesus and truth. (2 Cor 4:4, Luke 24:45) · Authority. Pray with the authority that Jesus gives you over principalities, powers and spiritual strongholds in As-Suwaiq. Pray that God would release prophetic words over the land, releasing visions, dreams, signs and wonders in Jesus’ name. (Matthew 18:18, 2 Cor 10:4) · Revival. That any believers living in As-Suwaiq would be awakened by the Holy Spirit, have love and passion stirred in them for the lost, and rise to meet the need in their neighborhood. That He would show His eternal kindness, demonstrate the blessing of His Kingdom, and cause His people to prosper. 偉大的捍衛者

 May Focus: Al-Batinah South Gateway in the Middle It has been said that the Hajar Mountains are Oman's backbone, the Batinah coast is like its stomach, and Adh-Dhahirah is like its back. Al-Batinah South (pop. 465,550) is a significant gateway from the Muscat area into the Interior, and also into the fertile Batinah Coast. The capital of Al-Batinah South is Rustaq, which also once was the capital of Oman and seat of the Imamate in the 1600s. It houses an imposing fort (recently restored) with a falaj (canal) system running through it, as well as a historic neighborhood that is now a museum. This area is also known for its helwa (Omani sweets) production and the finest honey, as well as breathtaking scenery and therapeutic hot springs. The coastal area is heavily populated, and the city of Barka was the site of the 1747 overthrow of Persian rule and establishment of the Al Bu Said dynasty (who still rule to this day). May this gateway area be opened up, that the King of Glory may come in! “Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.  Ar-Rustaq A Rustic Gem Ar-Rustaq (Arabic: ٱلرُّسْتَاق, pop. 45,367) is the capital and largest city of Al Batinah South Region, and seat of Ar-Rustaq District (pop. 117,899). The name comes from the Persian word rōstāg, meaning "district" or “large village”, and is actually related to the Latin 'rustica', from where we get the English 'rustic'. Ar-Rustaq was ruled by Persians during the Sasanian Empire, 7th-8th century AD, and served as their local administrative capital. Ar-Rustaq later became the capital of Oman during the 17th century. Ar-Rustaq Fort and Al-Hazm Castle are important historical fortifications, and there are hot springs that are channeled for bathing nearby. It also has a modern city gate through one of its mountain passes, symbolic of its ancient strategic position at the base of the Hajar mountains. This area is famous for its agriculture, especially dates, fruits, and honey. As mentioned yesterday, this is a key ‘gateway’ city and region. Let’s declare this over Ar-Rustaq: So wake up, you living gateways, and rejoice! Fling wide, you ageless doors of destiny! Here He comes; the King of Glory is ready to come in. In the traditional method of Omani beekeeping, the beehive is placed in the hollowed-out trunk of a palm tree, which creates a unique flavor of honey but also protects the bees from both the summer heat and the cold in the winter season. The wood scent from the palm trunk permeates the honey, creating a unique flavor. The honey is collected and bottled in recycled Vimto bottles (the beverage of choice during Ramadan), and often sold on roadside stands or in local markets. Omani honey is categorized by pollen source and time of production, the best quality being ‘Al-Baram’ which is produced March-May from the Sumur (Acacia) tree flowers. This type of honey is dark in color, almost black, and lower in sugar content. Besides its use as a sweetener, Omanis also use honey for medicinal purposes.  Fortifications, Part 1 The Significance of Oman's Forts and Watchtowers It is estimated that there are over 1500 defensive structures throughout Oman, including ancient forts, castles, and watchtowers. They are a unique, defining feature of Oman's landscape-something quintessentially Omani. Sur has over 90 structures. Izki has 142. Samail has 115. Barka has 38. Suwaiq has 27. Nearly every town in the Sultanate has some sort of fortification, be it in crumbling ruins or recently restored. The Bahla fortress predates Islam, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Some forts date back to the early Islamic period under the rule of the Persians; others were built by the Portuguese in the 1600s. Most structures, however, were constructed after that by local tribes to defend their settlements and water supplies from other tribes. Mirabat Fort in Dhofar holds the distinction of being the last fort in modern warfare to be 'besieged'-during an insurrection by pro-communist Yemenis in the 1970s. These fortified structures were built out of stone and covered with saruj, a traditional type of cement or stucco. Besides providing military defense, many forts served as the home of the local Sheikh (tribal chief) or Wali (magistrate), and thus were also seats of government and societal life.  Fortifications, Part 2 Power and Authority It has been noted that "rulers over the ages built forts as the physical manifestation of their authority in Oman." Author Patricia Groves writes, "Always positioned prominently in the landscape, the fortress had a powerful symbolic function as a deterrent for the enemy and in the local exercise of dominance and leadership." Even today, we see echoes of this in the rampant construction of police and military complexes (in the traditional fort style) along the Muscat Expressway and the edges of cities. Let us look with spiritual eyes at the unseen realities that are behind the physical, seen world (2 Cor. 4:18). What might it mean that this is a fortified nation? How should we then pray?  Fortifications, Part 4 Watchtowers and Watchmen The hillsides throughout Oman are dotted with ancient watchtowers. These round towers were built at strategic high places and manned by 1-2 soldiers. These watchmen would guard towns, oases, and strategic passes, warning of threat or attack. It was a lonely, dangerous, tedious post with day and night vigil. In the Bible, watchmen would guard the walls and towers of cities and vineyards, and were often a metaphor for prayer and intercession. Let's pray to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up more watchmen over this nation! "I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually.  Barka Bulls and Blessings Barka (Arabic: بركاء, pop. 36,427) is a coastal city and seat of Barka district (pop. 181,630) in the region of Al Batinah South. The impressive Barka Fort, dating back to the 17th century, was built to defend against Persian and Portuguese invaders. The fort was the site of the 1747 overthrow of Persian rule and establishment of the Al Bu Said dynasty (who still rule to this day). Barka is also famous for its halwa, a traditional Omani sweet, and its bullring in the center of town, making it a popular place to watch bull-butting, a non-violent sport between two large bulls bred by Brahmin. Nearby As-Suwadi beach is known for an abundance of seashells, and the nearby islands that can be reached by foot at low tide. The name Barka is related to the Arabic word for blessing.  Omani Halwa The National Dessert Al-Batinah South region is famous for its halwa factories that produce the delectable Omani sweet. “Halwa” is the Arabic word for sweet, candy or dessert, and Omani halwa is quite different from the tahini-based halwa of other parts of the Middle East. Omani halwa is a gelatinous mixture cooked in small batches and stirred by hand until achieving the perfect consistency. It consists of sugar, ghee, saffron, cardamom, and rose water, and usually topped with nuts. It is traditionally served with Omani coffee, and sweet sticky bites are alternated with the sips of bitter drink. It represents Omani hospitality, and is typically served on special occasions like weddings, birthdays, religious holidays, and other festivities. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!  Al-Musannah Wonderfully Made Al-Musannah (Arabic: المصنعة. pop. 10,809) is a coastal town and seat of the Al-Musannah district (pop. 99,008) in the Al-Batinah South Region. Although it has a historic port and sea-side castle, the area is probably best known for its modern marina with a resort and watersports, including jet-skiing, windsurfing, scuba diving, kayaking, and sailing. The marina was previously known as Al-Musannah Sports City, and hosted the 2010 Asian Beach Games. In Arabic, Al-Musannah means ‘manufacturer’, and comes from the root ‘to make, to produce’.  Nakhal Trees Planted by the Water Nakhal (Arabic: نَخَل, pop. 15,580) is a town and seat of Nakhal district (pop. 28,037) in Al Batinah South. It is home to many old castles and forts, including the distinctive Nakhal Fort built into the rocky mountainside and guarding an immense oasis of date palms. The foundations of the fort date back to pre-Islamic times, but the current structure was built in 1834. This area is also known for its wadis and hot springs, and is a popular tourist destination. In Arabic, Nakhal is related to the word for palm tree, which this area is full of. "But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."
