 Pour Out Pentecost, Part 2 Praying from the Book of Acts Before you pray, pause to remember what God did on the day of Pentecost and think about His mighty works that we see in the Book of Acts. This is the same God we are praying to now! Almighty God, in the name of Jesus we ask for an outpouring of Your Spirit (2:33) in Oman like the day of Pentecost. May it lead to the same life- and society-changing power we see in the Book of Acts. May Your Spirit empower believers living in Oman to be Your witnesses (1:8) and to declare the gospel (5:42) with boldness (4:31, 4:33, 28:31); even in the face of opposition and persecution (4:8, 5:29, 6:10, 20:24). We ask that when the good news about Jesus Christ is proclaimed that You would bring conviction and understanding of Your salvation that leads to repentance. (2:37, 2:38, 4:4) We pray that along with the declaration of the gospel there would also be signs, wonders, and healings ( 2:43, 4:31, 5:12 6:8, 14:10. 28: 5, 3:7, 5:16, 28:8) that point to the authority and saving power of Christ. May You send dreams and visions to people that glorify You and open people to your message of salvation. (2:17, 10:3, 16:10, 18:9) There is no name more powerful than Yours, and so we ask in Your name that people oppressed by demonic influence would be delivered (8:7, 16:18, 19:19). Now, to the God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, may Your name be glorified in Oman like never before and through all generations forever and ever.  Pour Out Pentecost, Part 3 Praying from the Book of Acts Before you pray, pause to remember what God did on the day of Pentecost and think about His mighty works we see in the Book of Acts. This is the same God we are praying to now! Almighty God, in the name of Jesus we again ask for an outpouring of Your Spirit (2:33) in Oman like the day of Pentecost. May it lead to the same life- and society- changing power we see in the Book of Acts. In those days You added to Your church daily those who were being saved, and our desire is that this would become the reality in Oman for the glory of Your name (2:47, 5:14, 16:5). You are worthy of worship of all people, and so we ask that those being saved would include religious leaders (18:8), radicals (9:18), and government officials (8:27). We ask that whole families would come into Your kingdom at the same time. (10:47, 16:15, 16:31, 18:8) We pray that all believers will be unified in love under Christ (2:44, 4:32), devoted to the holy scriptures (2:42), and dedicated to prayer (2:42). We ask that the result of this move of Your Spirit would be that everyone in Oman would have an opportunity to hear the good news (13:49, 19:10) and that worship would rise up like fragrant incense from every corner of this nation.  June Focus: Al Buraimi Region Springs in the Desert Al Buraimi region (pop. 121,802; Arabic: ٱلْبُرَيْمِي) is located on the border of Oman and the UAE, and the regional capital, Al Buraimi, sits across from its sister city, Al Ain in the Abu Dhabi emirate. These twin cities are situated on an oasis, and were once an ancient caravan stop for weary travelers crossing the harsh desert. This area was historically known as 'Tawam' (تَوَام), or 'Twins', referring to the twin 'aflaj' irrigation channels that feed off of the oasis. Al Buraimi is also known for its unique fort architecture, as well as its slave market, which only closed in 1970. It was also the site of an international dispute in the 1950s as Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, and Britain vied for control of the strategic piece of land.

 Blessing Al Buraimi Springs of Living Water Some of the underground springs in Al Buraimi have run dry, but recently one of them miraculously started flowing again, to the utter amazement and delight of the local community! Let us bless Al-Buraimi with the abundant flow of the true Living Water! O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.  Praying the Beatitudes, Part 1 Blessed are the Poor in Spirit The next several days we will be praying for the people of Oman with the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.” (MATTHEW 5:3) Merciful Father, enable the people of Oman to accept that they are spiritually bankrupt without You. Deep in their hearts, they refuse to believe that “apart from you, they can do nothing.” Forgive them and free them from self-sufficiency. Allow them to embrace their neediness as both normal and necessary to become citizens in the Kingdom of God. May they rejoice that You have not left them to themselves in their poverty, but You have made them rich in Christ. Engender in them true humility, genuine repentance, bold brokenness, and ruthless dependence so that your Kingdom comes through them to earth as it is in heaven. May they grow to embody that “the way up is the way down” in all dimensions of life. Foster in them, as both individuals and as a community, the constant and authentic cry, “God have mercy on me a sinner.” We pray this humbly in the name of Jesus Christ, who though rich in glory became poor for our sakes so that in Him alone we might become rich in mercy and grace.  Praying the Beatitudes, Part 2 Blessed are Those Who Mourn The next several days we will be blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN, FOR THEY WILL BE COMFORTED.” (MATTHEW 5:4) Gracious Comforter, we praise You for the truth of the words of the psalmist, “You have kept count of my tossings and put my tears in Your bottle.” You treasure the tears of the people of Oman and receive them with tender joy. Thank You. Would You teach the people of Oman to weep for all that breaks Your heart - whether it takes up residence inside of them or around them in their world? Bring to them godly sorrow as they encounter injustice, hatred, racism, relativism, secularism, and many other modes of being that love what You hate and hate what You love. Keep them from stoicism in the face of pain by softening their hearts in such a way that they refuse to pretend or deny the brokenness of life in a fallen world. Protect them from cynicism in the midst of their pain by comforting them with the hope of the Good News of Jesus. Encourage them with the truth that weeping may last for the night but joy comes in the morning, so that they do not grow weary or give up.  Praying The Beatitudes, Part 3 Blessed are the Meek The next several days we will be blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THE MEEK, FOR THEY WILL INHERIT THE EARTH.” (MATTHEW 5:5) Humble King, we confess it is difficult for any of us to admire meekness. This is true for the people of Oman as well. Meekness means that they must be quietly dependent upon You; it means that they are in a place of neediness, humility, and waiting. It means that they would have to use what little strength they have for the sake of others. To them, meekness feels like a spiritual word for losing. May Omanis come to be in awe of Your son Jesus, the One who came in gentleness and humility. The One who came riding on a donkey, instead of parading on a warhorse. The One who ate and drank with sinners rather than jockeying for position with the religious. The One who did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but instead made Himself nothing. Forgive them for thinking of themselves more highly than they ought. Give them the faith to live simple, humble lives of self-awareness, which leads to love and service of others.  Praying The Beatitudes, Part 4 Blessed are Those Who Hunger and Thirst The next several days we will be blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, FOR THEY WILL BE FILLED.” (MATTHEW 5:6) Jesus, our Bread from Heaven and our Living Water, we ask that You would so satisfy the hunger of the people of Oman that they stop looking to idols to feed them. Please don’t numb their hunger, for You gave them food and water so that they would daily understand how needy they are. Instead, cause them to be ravenous for You.  Praying the Beatitudes, Part 6 Blessed are the Pure in Heart The next several days we will be blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART, FOR THEY WILL SEE GOD.” (MATTHEW 5:8) Holy God, set the hearts and minds of the Omani people on things above. Their hearts, like ours, can be so cluttered with misplaced affections for earthly things. Their minds, like ours, can be so contaminated with lustful, greedy, angry, lazy, competitive, and prideful thoughts and ambitions. Forgive them for the impurity of their hearts through Jesus, who has graciously given to His beloved His perfect record of purity through His life, death, and resurrection. Thank You that Omanis can have the hope that their faith will become sight when they see their Holy God in the very face of Christ. May the sight of that coming glorious day shape their sight in these turbulent days so that they live fixing our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. Lead them to say no to those things that distract them from listening to You and following You. Soften their hearts and transform their wills, that they may exhibit sincerity of heart as they follow Your leading and presence in every situation they face.  Praying the Beatitudes, Part 7 Blessed are the Peacemakers This week we have been blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS, FOR THEY WILL BE CALLED SONS OF GOD.” (MATTHEW 5:9) Forgiving Father, we praise You that Omanis can be reconciled to You by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because of Your gracious work of reconciliation in their lives, may they respond to conflict in a way that is noticeably different from how the world responds. Empower them to believe that conflict is not an accident but instead provides an opportunity to glorify God, serve others, and deepen in repentance. Please keep them from focusing on their own goals or fixating on the behavior of others, but instead may they first remove the log from their own eye. Soften their hearts so that they do not resist correction but instead receive rebuke because of their trust in Your mercy that leads us to boldly and humbly confess our sins to You and to others. Deliver them from living a ‘false peace’ by avoiding conflict or appeasing others because of fear. Fill them with love and humility, wisdom and gentleness as they step out in faith to live as peacemakers. In the name of Christ, our peace, we pray, Amen.  Praying the Beatitudes, Part 8 Blessed are the Persecuted The past week we have been blessing the people of Oman from the blessings of Jesus found in the Beatitudes. These prayers are adapted from a prayer guide that can be found here. “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE PERSECUTED BECAUSE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.” (MATTHEW 5:10) Suffering Servant, You told us that “if the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first.” Please protect the believers in Oman from surprise when they suffer for their faith. May the truth of their union with Christ be so real to them that they expect to share both in Your sufferings and glory, both in Your cross and resurrection. We thank You that in the Upper Room as You spoke of the reality of the world’s hate, you also assured us of the presence of the Holy Spirit. We pray that all Christians currently persecuted in Oman would know the peace, comfort, and power of the Holy Spirit in the midst of their trial and pain. Open the eyes of captors and tormentors and give them the liberty and joy of Jesus. As they who follow the way of Jesus encounter unjust suffering, may they go the way of Jesus – no deceit, no retaliation, no threats. Give them faith in their moment of trial, so that like Jesus they entrust themselves to their Holy Father who judges justly.  Al Buraimi Border Oasis Town Al-Buraimi (Arabic: ٱلْبُرَيْمِي, pop. 92,223) is the capital and largest city of Al Buraimi Region, and seat of Ar-Buraimi District (pop. 110,171). It is a border town, adjacent to the more prosperous city of Al Ain in the Abu Dhabi Emirate of the UAE. In the past this was an open border, and people were able to cross freely. In recent years the border has tightened up, with no more unregulated movement across it. There is an extensive border fence separating the two cities, and new border posts to control the crossing. As a caravan oasis, the city of Al-Buraimi has long been a center for trade. This is evidenced by two ancient, imposing forts as well as extensive markets in the downtown area. It is also home to two institutes of higher education: The University of Buraimi, and Al Buraimi University. The district is known for its palm frond craft, production of copper tools, and embroidered clothing. The name Buraimi is related to the Arabic root meaning ‘to twirl’. In Hebrew, the word translated “exult” means to jump and spin around, in joy. "The Lord your God is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult [dance, leap, spin] over you with loud singing."  Date Palms, Part 1 Nourishment of the Desert Date palms flourish in the desert heat as few other trees can. As such, they have been a staple crop in Oman, the Gulf, and indeed throughout the Middle East and North Africa for centuries. Just 15 dates a day can supply enough calories and nutrients for a person to live on, providing fiber, potassium, magnesium, manganese, copper, selenium, amino acids, iron, vitamins, and more! Indeed, dates have been a staple food to the Bedouin tribes as they roam the desert lands, and for sailors and traders as they sailed the seas. Some researchers even consider dates to be an 'ideal' food that can help alleviate world hunger! Palm trees can live for 100-200 years. In Oman, traditionally a palm tree was planted at the birth of a son, to sustain him and his family throughout his lifetime. Today, Oman is one of the top 10 producers of dates in the world, with more than 8 million trees and 250 indigenous varieties. However, nearly 80% of production is of just 10 varieties, the most popular being Fard, Khalas, and Kutaisi. A single tree may produce up to 270 kg (595 lbs) of dates, with a single cluster weighing up to 12 kg (26 lbs). When properly stored, dried dates can last for years.  Date Palms, Part 2 Life-Sustaining Harvest Although date palms are hardy, they are not necessarily easy to cultivate. The trees are fertilized by hand, with the pollen flowers from the male tree painstakingly inserted by the farmer into the flowers of the female tree. Shortly after pollination, the fruit branches are bent down to ease in harvesting; the clusters naturally grow straight up! Every part of the date palm is used for numerous purposes: for food, furniture, housing, fencing, animal feed, rope, handicrafts, and even beehives! Traditional Omani housewares are woven from palm fronds, such as fans, mats, baskets, etc. The cultural significance of the date palm in the Middle East was recently recognized by UNESCO as an item of World Heritage. Today, let's bless Omani believers with a promise for the righteous: "Yes! Look how You’ve made all your devoted lovers to flourish like palm trees, each one growing in victory, standing with strength! You’ve transplanted them into Your heavenly courtyard, where they are thriving before You, for in Your presence they will still overflow and be anointed. Even in their old age they will stay fresh, bearing luscious fruit and abiding faithfully." (Psalm 92:12-14, TPT)

維持生命的收穫
